Metal Wall Panels used on Utah School
The design objective for Syracuse High School in Syracuse, Utah, was
to create a positive image of the school to patrons through a
distinctive campus and aesthetic appeal. Both the approach to and
the entrance of the school are designed to inspire, to spark the
imagination of future students and to create an excitement for
learning.
Using the building itself as a tool for learning, the design
visually displays both the products of academic curriculum and the
actual learning process. By creating small learning communities as
the core of the facility, the design redistributes the large student
population. These smaller learning communities are academies within
the high school, utilizing a project-based team-teaching approach.
The central spine of Syracuse serves as “Main Street” to these
communities with each distinct academy opening onto the central
spine. The design pays close attention to ensuring visibility
throughout the building’s spaces, creating a lively sense of
collaboration and a feeling of community.
Syracuse is designed to incorporate current innovations but with the
flexibility to accommodate emerging technologies. The high tech
nature of the building is not only provided in the facilities but is
manifested in the building materials themselves.
Metal
panels are applied at major focal points of the exterior elevations
giving the building a distinct, modern feel. Corrugated metal panels
were used at the Auditorium emphasizing the uniquely swooped
profile. The large sign fins at the main entrances to the building
serve as beacons drawing the community to this academic and cultural
center for years to come.
Over 18,000 square feet of the MBCI 7.2 Panel was used on the school
walls. Panels were coated in a Silver Metallic and a Dove Metallic
paint. The 7.2 panel is an exposed fastener wall panel 36” wide with
symmetrical 1 ½” high ribs on 7.2” centers.
Overall the school has 385,000 square feet of space. VCBO
Architecture, Salt Lake City, Utah was the designer. Hogan &
Associates Construction, Centerville, Utah was the General
Contractor. And, the metal panel installer was All Metals
Fabrication, Ogden, Utah.
