Stopping False Fire Alarms

Safety Technology International, Inc. of Waterford, Michigan announces a pull station cover (Stopper(r) II) which mounts directly to the wall over an existing pull station. When the cover is lifted, a self-contained alarm sounds which draws immediate attention to the area. The prankster will either run or be caught, helping to prevent a false fire alarm. If service to the pull station is required, the covers 9 volt internal alarm may be deactivated. The alarm has a choice of a piercing 105 dB or a softer 95 dB. Cover does not restrict legitimate fire alarms from being activated.

Today, the unique and patented STI Stopper II device is on duty helping stop false fire alarms in schools, colleges, universities and training schools from coast to coast-as well as hotels/motels, hospitals, nursing homes, stores and commercial buildings of almost every type around the world.

Stopper II has been tested and approved by fire prevention authorities including but not limited to UL, cUL, FM and ADA Compliance for operation. It also has a lifetime warranty against breakage of the polycarbonate in normal use (one year on electronics).

What others have to say about Stopper II:

"We recommend-almost command-the installation of STI Stopper II devices wherever there are manual pull stations and the potential is there for false fire alarms. They have done more than cut down on them in almost all cases-false fire alarms have gone down to zero. Stopper II is a great product!

"Hospitals have been our biggest problem area in the past with schools second. But not now with the Stopper II. An awful lot of manual pull stations are located next to stairs and entrances where it's so easy to pull the alarm in a crowd and the culprit is out the door before anybody knows who did it. A Stopper II cover over the manual pull station gives them pause and it just doesn't happen any more." Joe Messmer, fire chief, Edgewood Fire/EMS.

"Needless running of the rigs because of malicious false fire alarms can be costly and dangerous. So we suggest the use of STI Stopper II units to protect manual pull stations where there are problems, such as in daycare centers and schools. The Stopper II devices work real well." Sparky Shriver, fire marshal, Arvada Fire Department.

"STI Stopper II covers worked out well for us in two areas. First, in high school gyms to protect manual pull stations from being hit by basketballs. Second, in pre-school facilities where there were problems with false fire alarms. Kids being carried by their mothers would activate the manual pull stations as they walked down the halls." John Vail, fire chief, Evendale Fire Department.

"People didn't know that the manual pull station outside the entrance to the emergency room at a local hospital was not the automatic door opener. So they would pull it and we'd have a false fire alarm. I recommended they install an STI Stopper II cover over the manual pull station. They did and we've had no trouble with it since." Dail Fritsch, chief, Montpelier Fire Department.
